Claire is an Employability and Careers Consultant at the University of Exeter. During 20 years in the profession, Claire has worked with unemployed young people and adults, making the transition to HE in 2014. She is currently focused on supporting postgraduate students in the Business School as well as teaching an assessed module on the MSc Management programme. At Exeter, Claire is committed to co-ordinating support for international students, and improving their career prospects and sits on the AGCAS Internationalisation group.
Claire specialises in careers education, has a PGCert in Academic Practice, and chaired the AGCAS group “Embedding Employability in the Curriculum”, creating a comprehensive virtual toolkit around curricular design for HE careers professionals. A critical part of careers education in academia is partnership working with academic colleagues using consultancy skills. During 2021, Claire designed and delivered consultancy training to 7 careers teams from UK institutions, reflecting a shift in expectations of the role of careers practitioners in HE.
A keen writer, Claire has had articles published in Prospects Luminate, AGCAS’s Phoenix journal and the CDI’s Career Matters publication, and contributed to the national publication “What Do Graduates Do?”.
