Debra Macfarlane is a Quality Enhancement Manager at QAA Scotland, working on Enhancement-Led Institutional Review (ELIR) and educational development projects, including the national Enhancement Themes and Focus On work. Her previous experience includes roles within the University of Glasgow, leading on policy and practice in employability and work-related learning. Debra is a graduate from the University of St. Andrews and an alumna of Emory University, Atlanta. Current work includes Focus On: Graduate Skills, a project bringing together the views of staff and students from across Scottish higher education to work with government and sector agencies to progress the skills agenda in Scotland.

  • Exploring student, graduate and employer views of graduate skills – what we do well and what we could do better, as found in two current studies.
  • Discussing how we can ensure graduates across subject areas develop appropriate digital skills.
  • Reflecting on ways of enabling all students (irrespective of background or characteristics) to access the full range of skills development opportunities.
